Diet Coke Withdrawls
I had quit drinking Diet Coke before and I loved how I felt while off the Diet Coke. The most noticeable change was that I no longer craved the Diet Coke in the morning. The urge was gone. But after quitting Diet Coke for some time and then trying a single small Diet Coke, I was off and running again.
But, once again, I have quit drinking my Diet Coke. The first four days I had a headache. This was expected and was bearable. The cravings and urgings my body had to drink a Diet Coke were strong but bearable. Even the HABIT of going to the gas station to get a refill was strong. Two times I pulled into a gas station to refill my Diet Coke I did so out of habit without thinking about it. But, the one unexpected side effect are the dreams I have been having that focus on me DRINKING A DIET COKE! Can you feel the love?

You are about the third cyclist/athlete I've known to chronicle their difficulties in quitting the diet soda habit in the blog format. I think I'll be able to write a thesis pretty soon.
P.S.- You know what's better than Diet Coke?
Regular Coke.
P.S.S.- You know what's better than Coke? Coffee.

I hear ya brother. Sodas are good. I go the "diet" route as well but I am sure there are plenty of side effects that make it just as bad as the regular stuff. I am more of a weekend drinker....Sometimes I buy a 12 pack for the weekend and its gone by Monday morning.
Geesh, think of the money you will save. My sister-in-law takes the money she would have used for a diet coke and buys coke stock! I could do the same but for my kids college fund. I am sure there would be plenty of college money after 18 years.

I love soda but can't even remember which month it was I had my last one. My reasoning... Coke has 17 table spoons of sugar per serving. Beyond ruining my teeth, I'm trying to lose or maintain my weight, not pack on the pounds. And empty soda calories is big contributor. Not to mention, when you consume such large quantities of soda, it fills your stomach due to the carbonation making you not as hungry and essentially creating a situation where you could become malnourished.
But you were drinking diet, so it's not chalked full of all the sugar, but all that caffeine can't be good for you either.
I'm sure you are all aware of the push to have warning labels on soda cans like they have on cigarettes. Why? Because it really unhealthy stuff.
I think your wise to cut out the soda and think you'll eventually feel much better for it. I recommend replacing it with sports drink or just plane old water.
Plus, why drink soda or water when I live less than a mile from the Sierra Nevada Brewery! (I don't drink much of that stuff either)
Good luck on your endevor!
Oh, and thanks for taking that sweet picture 20 years ago that I now use as my profile image!
Dang, I need to comment one more time... 6 to 10 44oz sodas a day? That's between 2 and 3 gallons a day, totaling 6 to 700 gallons a year.
Dude, put down the soda can and step way!
I'm amazed!
Good point. Will the Diet branch of Coke be able to stay in business??

I think I am going to invest the money that I used to spend on Diet Coke month into Diet Coke stocks.
